  1. You had me at the title, I love to think about and learn about masks. I haven’t seen your blog before but I really like how you write your verse over an image, and the image of the mask in this post is really beautiful – as is your writing. The poem for me starts out simple but elegant: they thought she was fierce, they thought, in other words, that they knew her but they were wrong. Then your twist and wordplay at the end is brilliant and thought-provoking — she was a pawn, okay, but “in her own masquerade” — and I’m really thinking about that, how is she a pawn (not a queen, not in control) in her own — what? fantasy world? So she doesn’t even have control of her own “masquerade”? Strong ending, sad to think about, but very interesting! https://justuscreek.com

    1. Thank you for your kind words. I’m glad you enjoyed and appreciated the piece. Although not the goal, a definite melancholy does exist, however, the intention of the overall theme is self-awareness and acceptance of
      uncontrollable harsh realities in life.
